School Safety Monitors in Leon County Schools are responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and positive school environment by supervising students, monitoring facilities, and responding to safety concerns.
• Patrol and monitor school property: Walk hallways, restrooms, gateways, playgrounds, parking lots, and other student gathering areas before, during, and after school hours to deter and detect unsafe or unauthorized activity
• Student supervision: Oversee students during school hours, events, activities, and transitions between classes; provide care and support before and after school
• Behavior management: Remove students from disruptive or unsafe situations when appropriate; escort students with disciplinary actions to the Dean's office
• Safety monitoring: Check restrooms throughout the day, monitor parking lots and student gathering areas, and ensure smooth traffic flow and student movement between classes
• Security reporting: Detect and report unauthorized or suspicious persons/activities; notify supervisors of emergencies, dangerous, or unusual situations; report criminal activity to the School Resource Officer and administration
• Visitor assistance: Greet visitors, provide directions, and assist with their needs
• Emergency response: Follow emergency procedures, assist in crisis situations, and support school staff in maintaining safety
