Responsibilities

Operates, inspects, maintains, repairs and installs irrigation systems for Florida State University grounds to ensure adequate moisture for landscape.

Conducts routine maintenance checks of campus irrigation systems. Inspects, maintains, resets and repairs irrigation systems, which includes managing computerized controllers, diagnosing problems, and performing routine maintenance like adjusting sprinklers and replacing parts. Troubleshoots irrigation controllers, wires, solenoid valves, and sprinkler heads of all types. Hand digs to accomplish repairs replacing faulty parts and repairing leaks. Removes old sprinkler systems and recovers reusable irrigation components.

Installs, tests and maintains new irrigation systems, backflow devices and controllers. Operates tractors, trenchers, and other equipment needed to install and repair sprinkler lines. Digs trenches and installs pipes, wires, valves, valve boxes, sprinkler heads, and lines. Sets and maintains times on computer and electronic valve clocks.

Safely operates and maintains grounds equipment to ensure the health and appearance of university grounds. Ensures that all manual and power equipment is in proper working condition and reports maintenance problems to the supervisor. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor or higher authority.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and two years' experience, or a relevant Technical or vocational degree may substitute for experience.

A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
