Responsibilities

The Instructional Specialist I teaches and serves as the Instructor of Record and Program Manager for the Career Center's asynchronous, virtual Experience Recognition Program (ERP) with student enrollment ranging between 275-400+ students engaged in experiential learning opportunities, both on- and off- campus each semester. ERP focuses on leveraging experiential education principles and best practices to maintain Florida State's intention for ERP to facilitate student engagement in experiential learning opportunities as a high-impact practice.

Student participants with self-selected, pre-secured and confirmed experiential learning opportunities will develop learning objectives, reflect on career readiness competencies at pre-set intervals throughout the semester, and ultimately articulate transferable skill growth connected to their academic and career goals. The position oversees instruction, program administration, student outreach and engagement, assessment, campus partnerships, and operational management for multiple ERP modalities, including SDS 3802 Experiential Learning (zero-credit transcript recognition course) with specialized sections for InternFSU program participants, an advanced ERP section for students participating in the same experiential learning opportunity spanning multiple semesters, in addition to the co-curricular, non-credit experiential learning recognition option.

A strategic goal is for ERP to grow and support partners with high-impact experiential learning opportunities through customized sections curated for selected on- and off-campus experiential learning opportunities. As a result, the Instructional Specialist I will continually conduct outreach to cultivate partnerships with campus departments to create customized SDS 3802 Experiential Learning sections providing consultation, guidance, and ongoing support to those campus partners that implement specialized ERP sections within their experiential learning initiatives.

The Instructional Specialist I is responsible for managing functionality of ERP. Manage the day-to-day operations and functionality of ERP, including enrollment processes, course administration, student tracking, and program reporting. Process and review student applications for enrollment eligibility and completion requirements. Monitor and manage the ERP email account (cc-erp@fsu.edu) and serve as the primary point of contact for program-related inquiries. Coordinate semester-based recognition and completion materials, including student and site supervisor certificates. Maintain and update student marketing and outreach materials, ERP webpages, registration instructions, course materials, and Learning Management System course content each semester. Contribute to recurring, semester, and annual program assessment reports and recommend program enhancements and operational improvements. Identify and recommend workflow, technology, equipment, and process improvements that support program effectiveness and efficiency. Collaborate with Career Center assessment staff on data collection, reporting, and evaluation projects demonstrating the impact of program participation and completion. Manage relationships with career services technology vendors to support ERP application systems and experiential learning management tools. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that align with university policies, accreditation standards, and experiential learning best practices. Lead and implement marketing, outreach, and communication efforts promoting ERP participation and experiential learning opportunities across the university community.

The Instructional Specialist I will liaise with the following campus partners for successful management and instruction of ERP:
  • Center for Global Engagement to pre-authorize student enrollment in ERP when the student is studying at FSU on an F-1/J-1 Visa.
  • Office of Liberal Studies to successfully upload student completion of the Formative Experience graduation milestone at the conclusion of each academic semester.

  • Office of the General Counsel to approve affiliation agreements at the request of participating internship sites for enrolled students.
  • Office of Procurement Services' Contract Administration Team to route and execute non-revenue affiliation agreements for experiential learning sites.
  • Office of the University Registrar to provide both student eligibility and enrollment confirmation letters at the request of participating sites for future and enrolled students and to request late drop/add of students as needed.
  • Office of the Provost's Director of International Travel, Safety & Risk to pre-approve student travel and ensure compliance with university international travel guidelines at experiential learning sites located outside of the contiguous 48 US States.
  • Office of Digital Learning to provide annual reporting data of students interning at internship sites located outside of the State of Florida for the regulatory State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA), and to oversee the creation of the different LMS ERP courses or organizations.
  • Referral to student support offices including Department of Student Support and Transitions, Counseling & Psychological Services, etc. when relevant.
  • Successful implementation of ERP includes refreshing student marketing and outreach campaigns annually, focusing on student learning outcomes, direct student advising, consistent and timely responses to communication from student participants and internship sites in addition to collaboration with campus partners to adopt and offer more specialized sections of ERP. The Instructional Specialist I will contribute and partner with internal Career Center colleagues to promote and scaffold engagement in wraparound career services to support career development of each ERP participant. As needed, co-teach one section of SDS 3340 Introduction to Career Development.
