DESCRIPTION
The Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller serves Leon County residents by supporting court operations, processing and recording judicial orders, and safeguarding public records and funds.

Starting Salary Notice:
Initial appointments are typically made at or near the minimum of the approved pay range, consistent with budget authorization and internal equity.
Position Overview:

The Court Director oversees and administers court operational functions for the division, ensuring compliance, operational consistency, and effective service delivery across all assigned court operational areas. The position establishes operational priorities, coordinates division-wide workflow practices, and advises executive leadership regarding court operational matters.

This position reports to the Chief Deputy Clerk and operates within a structured public-sector environment requiring professionalism, accountability, and adherence to statutory and procedural requirements. The position ensures operational compliance with statutes, court rules, administrative orders, and established procedures but does not interpret legal rulings or determine legal outcomes.

ESSENTIAL ROLE RESPONSIBLITIES
Division Operations Administration

  • Directs and oversees multiple court operational areas and ensures effective service delivery.
  • Establishes workflow priorities and operational expectations.

Policy & Compliance Management

  • Implements operational policies and ensures alignment with statutory and judicial requirements.
  • Evaluates operational impact of procedural or legislative changes and coordinates implementation.

Leadership & Organizational Oversight

  • Supervises management staff and oversees performance management processes.
  • Advises Chief Deputy Clerk on operational needs, staffing, and workflow considerations.

External Coordination & Representation

  • Serves as liaison with judiciary, justice partners, and external agencies regarding operational matters.
  • Represents the Clerk's Office, with the Chief Deputy Clerk's approval, in operational and interagency discussions.

Assignments may vary based on operational need.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Foundational Knowledge

  • Knowledge of court operational processes, administrative practices, and organizational management principles.

Functional Skills

  • Ability to direct division-wide operations and evaluate organizational performance.
  • Ability to implement operational strategies and monitor compliance with established procedures.

Communication & Professional Skills

  • Ability to communicate professionally with executive leadership, judiciary, external partners, and staff.

Analytical & Judgement Skills

  • Ability to evaluate operational needs, interpret policies, and determine appropriate administrative action within established authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Public Administration, Management, Criminal Justice, or related field.

Required Experience
Experience in court administration, governmental operations, or organizational management including leadership responsibilities. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Required Licensure or Certification
None required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience directing multiple operational units, divisions, or programs within a governmental or court environment.
Experience establishing operational standards, performance metrics, or division-wide initiatives.
Experience advising executive leadership on operational, staffing, or workflow matters.
Advanced degree in public administration, Business Administration, Management, or related field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in office and public-facing environments. The position may require standing, walking, and handling materials weighing up to approximately 20 - 25 pounds. Work may involve exposure to sensitive or disturbing case information associated with court operations functions. Professionalism must be maintained at all times. Work schedules may vary based on operational needs and may include early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekend hours to support service delivery and operational coverage.
