Job Summary and Qualifications
Provide professional nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process. To collaborate with other members of the health care delivery team including physicians, to deliver quality health care. Primary role is the delivery of competent clinically appropriate placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Lines and/or Midlines as ordered. Requires demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and physiology of central line placement/peripheral vascular, aseptic technique, ability to confirm line placement via chest x-ray successful placement of PICC three or more times under direct supervision of a Certified PICC nurse, knowledge of maintenance and care of catheters. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of Life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding patient status.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing process.
2. Participates and cooperates in the unit based Quality Improvement processes.
3. Supports, maintains and provides an environment which is supportive of quality patient care through effective use of resources and personnel.
4. Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
5. Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patient's right to privacy by protecting confidential information.
6. Plans and implements patient care and teaching based on a total assessment and the age of the patient.
7. Evaluates and documents patient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; takes appropriate action based on assessment of the patient.
8. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify of care or the services delivered.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
10. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.
11. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
12. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
13. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.
14. Maintains on call availability and regular communication devices as appropriate.
15. Collaborates with patients, physicians, and care team members to provide efficient and timely use of PICC team resources to achieve maximum benefit for the plan of care.
16. Other duties as assigned.
17. Inserts PICC line and med line IV catheter determines placement via x-ray follow-up and documents the procedure.
18. Assists with difficult IV insertions.
19. Plans, evaluates and implements interventions for solving IV related patient care problems.
20. Keeps current on IV advances in IV therapy.
21. Provides current on IV therapy instruction and/or information to nursing staff, patients and families.
22. Assist staff by monitoring PICC and med lines de clotting, performing dressing changes and discontinuing catheter with or without catheter tip cultures.
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma from an accredited institution required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Current FL RN license required or appropriate compact licensure. If compact license held in another state, active FL RN compact license required within 60 days of hire. Advanced Nurse Practitioner license acceptable
American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification required at hire*
American Red Cross or American Heart Association Advanced Life Support Course (ALS or ACLS) and Certification (45 day grace period)*
*Instructor certifications interchangeable with required certifications
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
2 years of Vascular Access experience required (PICC, Midlines)
