Description

The Assistant Controller t is responsible for supporting the finance department in preparing and analyzing financial statements, overseeing reconciliations, and ensuring accuracy across general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable processes. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to mentor accounting staff while supporting operations unique to the industrial refrigeration industry, such as project-based billing, service contract revenue recognition, parts and equipment procurement, and compliance with construction and service accounting practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (Additional duties may be assigned).

• Assist in the preparation and delivery of the Financial Statement package.

• Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.

• Analyze the Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts for accuracy.

• Prepare and post journal entries to the General Ledger.

• Review periodic reports of general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and correct errors prior to close of accounting period.

• Oversee Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable processes to ensure accuracy.

• Research, analyze, identify, and explain variances or unexplained items on the Income Statement and Balance Sheet.

• Assist independent CPA audit firm in their audit and review of financials.

• Assist in analysis and posting of end-of-year audit adjusting entries.

• Prepare annual Excel budget worksheets as needed for reporting.

• Assist in preparation of key performance indicators (weekly, monthly, quarterly).

• Oversee and mentor accounting staff to ensure compliance and teamwork.

• Support the annual budgeting process by consolidating budgets, key drivers, and forecasts.

• Conduct in-depth variance analysis to compare actual performance against budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations.

• Work with cross-functional teams to collect data, build financial dashboards, and educate employees on financial metrics.

• Support implementation of reporting tools to deliver timely, accurate financial insights.

• Conduct ad-hoc analyses to support new initiatives and process improvements.

• Perform or assist with operations as required to maintain workflow and meet schedules.

• Participate in meetings and work groups to communicate issues, obtain approvals, and maintain knowledge of new policies and regulations.

• Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing work.

• Follow all company policies and Standard Operating Procedures.

• Perform any range of special projects, tasks, and other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mentor and provide oversight to accounting staff; ensure compliance, accuracy, and teamwork within the finance department.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

• 10+ years of accounting experience.

• Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

• Experience with Percentage of Completion accounting, job cost accounting, and service/parts revenue recognition in the industrial refrigeration or construction industry preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks.

• Self-motivated with ability to take initiative, anticipate needs, and carry projects through completion.

• Detail oriented with ability to multi-task and produce high-quality work in a deadline-driven environment.

EQUIPMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standard office environment. Ability to sit for extended periods, operate office equipment, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software, and reporting tools.
