The Opportunity:

The Admission Specialist II serves as a SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) and is responsible for entering information in the Student and Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS). The primary function is to make a final determination if students are eligible to receive immigration documents to attend the university and guide the students through the VISA process. Must be able to interpret and follow Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) rules and regulations related to admissions. The Immigration Admission Specialist works with the UCF Global- International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) team and reports to the Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with prospective and admitted international students regarding required documents and processes necessary to be granted a Form I-20 from the university in addition to communicating with students regarding documents that remain outstanding or are invalid according to immigration regulations for Form I-20 issuance.

  • Receives immigration documents and updates PeopleSoft (student management system) and SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information system). Notifies students and keeps them informed.

  • Verifies academic admissions status to determine eligibility based on immigration regulations.

  • Liaises with Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, English Language Institute, Global Mobility (ELI/GM), admissions and programs coordinators to gather accurate information on international student academic admission status.

  • Collaborates with university officials and international students to ensure timely processing of Form I-20. Holds Designated School Official (DSO) status, appointed by the university and approved by SEVP to issue Form I-20. Enters admission information into SEVIS, issues Form I-20, mails Form I-20, welcome packets, university and departmental acceptance letters.

  • Provides information about obtaining visas abroad, transitioning to the United States and the University of Central Florida to support student success during entry to the U.S. and throughout their adjustment period.

  • Collects and verifies all federally required immigration documents once students arrive in the country.

  • Reviews reports to ensure accuracy of entered data, updates existing records and identifies issues or trends.

  • Ensures security and confidentiality of J and F records.

  • Remains current on all immigration regulations and identifies regulation changes that affect the university's international student population.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent and 6+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience serving a multicultural and multi-ethnic student population.

  • Proficiency with PeopleSoft, Sunapsis, or TDS for ISSS.

  • Background working in a higher education setting.

  • Proven experience with all J visa categories and F-1 students.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

To be a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Office (ARO), per federal regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident.
