Job Description:

Cypress Property and Casualty Insurance Company has a Data Analyst opening on their Portfolio Management Team. The Portfolio Management team leverages data-based insights and quantifies catastrophe risk to influence the decisions of executive leadership. This position organizes and maintains critical data and data processes that fuel reporting and analytics. This team supplies data and summary reports to various business areas including, actuarial, finance, underwriting, marketing, product, and portfolio management. They analyze and review data and reporting tools to ensure data quality and usability. This position offers the ability to work remotely.


Develop a strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance products specific to Cypress and its subsidiaries.

Assist in the analysis and design of data infrastructure used to meet internal reporting needs, ensuring data accuracy.

Provide specifications to IT to enhance data capture and reporting solutions.

Create, run, and modify complex SQL queries to perform data analysis.

Generate ad hoc reports as needed. Extract data using SQL and produce reports in Excel, R, or PowerBI.

Develop systems, queries, scripts, and spreadsheets that feed data visualizations used to monitor policy trends.

Research and resolve data or reporting issues that arise. Provide solutions and facilitate communications between the parties involved.


BA/BS degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics, computer science or related field.

1 to 3 years experience in data science or analytics in a P C environment.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Experience with SQL, R and/ or Python. Ability to quickly develop skillset using these tools.

A strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance products.

Detail oriented with the ability to pay close attention to accuracy of work.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Ability to acquire necessary skills through self-directed learning.

Able to work independently.
