University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute (UFHPTI), located in Jacksonville, Florida, has an opening for a Quality Assurance (QA) Coordinator in the Physics Division at the Department of Radiation Oncology. UFHPTI is the first proton therapy center in the Southeast U.S. With state-of-the-art proton therapy techniques and medical professionals, we are committed to providing excellent, effective, and safe proton therapy to cancer patients. UFHPTI is equipped with proton and photon radiation therapy modalities and imaging systems.

Facility and Treatment Equipment: At UFHPTI, we have 5 rooms for proton therapy and 3 for photon therapy, 2 CT simulators, and 1 MRI scanner. The proton system including an IBA Proteus PLUS (3 gantries offers both PBS  and DS, and 1 eye-line capabilities), and an IBA ProteusOne. All the Gantry rooms equipped with robotic patient-positioning system and orthogonal KV and CBCT for IGRT capabilities. Three linear accelerators (Varian TrueBeam and Elekta Synergies) providing 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and IGRT. Dosimetry devices and tools for both proton and photon beam measurements are equipped for QA.

Job Description: A QA coordinator at UFHPTI will receive clinical medical physics training for performing periodic system and patient-specific QA for all radiation therapy treatment modalities at UFHPTI. Under the supervision of a medical physicist, the QA coordinator performs proton and photon beam measurements and evaluates the beam and mechanical characteristics of the therapy and imaging systems. The QA coordinator maintains appropriate proficiency in the use of radiation treatment machines, radiation measuring equipment, treatment planning systems, and related software. The QA coordinator will also assist faculty physicists in maintaining regulatory compliance of radiation safety issues and in the implementation and development of novel treatment simulation, planning, and delivery techniques. As required by the supervisor, the QA coordinator participates in meetings, special task groups, and procedures in Radiation Oncology. In collaboration with physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, and IBA engineers, individuals will be responsible for performing QA by following the procedures and duties as assigned. The QA coordinator at UFHPTI will have clinical experience to apply for the CAMPEP-Accredited Medical Physics Residency Program or Medical Physics Graduate Program for degrees. Shift work is expected. 

Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have a bachelor’s degree. Major in medical or health physics, physical science, engineering or a closely related field is preferred. An individual should have a working knowledge of scientific testing. Prior experience in performing analysis and reporting of experimental measurements via computer software and specialized scientific tools is preferred.
