The Primary Engineer oversees and advises on code/design analysis and strategy, supports project management, develops code and design for the most complex projects, and oversees the review of code, design, and testing. The Primary Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in one or more application areas, utilizing broad technical expertise to identify new application solutions and improve process efficiency. The Primary Engineer coaches and mentors all application developers.
This position is on the Allstate Benefits IT Product Delivery team, responsible for delivering new solutions to Allstate Benefits business problems. This includes providing new technical capabilities to improve the integration of existing systems, as well as delivering new business functionality making build vs buy decisions as appropriate.
- Expert level understanding of Java/Oracle and some understanding .NET/SQL, with good understanding of microservices architecture
- Well versed with design such as OOP, Resiliency, Circuit Breaker Development and web services using HTTP/Rest and SOAP
- Determine development standards, programming approach, tools, and techniques that best meet the business requirements
- Oversee business, functional, and high level technical requirements (including recovery, security, and audit)
- Approve application configuration created by other application developers
- Train, mentor and build competent technical teams
Manages complex technical design components and acts as a referral expert in appropriate languages, data structures, vended packages, techniques and design methods
Determines programming approach, tools, and techniques that best meet the business requirements. Oversee development standards
Performs coding of highly complex modules as a subject matter expert
Manages the resolution of highly complex problems
Identifies opportunities, from a technical perspective, for promoting process efficiency, simplification, and improving application performance
Associates or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, MIS and/or equivalent work experience; 7 plus years of application development experience, insurance experience or specific industry designation, relevant technical designations and/or advanced degree preferred.
Technical and Professional Expertise - Required
At least 7 years of experience with Java, Spring Framework, Hibernate, REST Standards, Spark, Python, Git;
At least 7 years of Agile (one or more of these) JIRA, Confluence, Slack;
At least 7 years of experience with relational databases, including Oracle, SQL Server
At least 7 years leading full lifecycle delivery of complex systems, including requirements, design, build, test, and deployment;
At least 5 years of experience integrating enterprise applications employing capabilities such as Services Oriented Architecture, Enterprise Service Bus, web services and messaging;
Technical and Professional Expertise Preferred
Experience with ASP.Net and C# a plus
Experience leading Agile teams, including practice of Pair Programming and Test Driven Development;
Experience implementing standards for system design and development processes, methods, and tools;
Experience working with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery processes and tool automation (one or more of these) Jenkins, Bamboo, Artifactory, SonarQube, Maven;
