Position Title: Student Journalist Intern
Organization: FSView & Florida Flambeau
Location: Tallahassee, Florida (Florida State University campus)
Status: Part-Time, Up to 20 Hours/Week
Pay: $18/hour
Reports To: Editor-in-Chief and Faculty/Professional Advisers

About FSView

FSView & Florida Flambeau is the student-run news organization serving Florida State University and the surrounding community. As part of the USA TODAY Network, FSView provides aspiring journalists with real-world newsroom experience while producing impactful reporting on campus and community issues. The publication operates as a digital-first newsroom focused on breaking news, enterprise reporting, multimedia storytelling, newsletters, social media and audience engagement. Position Summary

FSView Student Journalist Interns report, write and produce content for FSView's website, newsletters and social media platforms. Interns cover breaking news, campus developments, student life, local government, sports, arts and culture, and other topics important to FSU students and the Tallahassee community.

This position offers hands-on experience in a professional newsroom environment while developing reporting, writing, multimedia and audience engagement skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report and write accurate, timely and engaging news and feature stories.
  • Attend events, meetings and newsworthy developments on and around the FSU campus.
  • Conduct interviews with students, faculty, administrators and community leaders.
  • Generate story ideas and pitch enterprise, investigative and explanatory reporting projects.
  • Produce content that meets AP Style and FSView editorial standards.
  • Assist with breaking news coverage and live updates as needed.
  • Create multimedia content including photos, video and social media posts.
  • Collaborate with editors to improve storytelling, accuracy and audience engagement.
  • Use analytics and audience insights to better understand reader interests.
  • Meet deadlines in a fast-paced digital newsroom environment.
  • Participate in newsroom meetings, planning sessions and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Current student at Florida State University or another Tallahassee-area college or university.
  • Strong interest in journalism, communications, digital media or related fields.
  • Excellent writing, reporting and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong news judgment and curiosity about campus and community issues.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital storytelling tools.
  • Willingness to learn newsroom best practices and accept coaching from editors.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with student media, journalism coursework or previous reporting experience.
  • Photography, videography or multimedia production skills.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of AP Style.
